I was honored yesterday by the Cape Coral and Pine Island Fire Dept. escorting one of the Pink Fire trucks to my home in Matlacha so I could sign “Debbie” (in honor of the Firefighter driver’s mother in law) as a 17 year survivor of lung cancer. It was
Certainly an emotional but honored privilege for me to sign this truck. This particular truck had been driven from No. Carolina. As my daughter’s mother- in- law, Barbara McQuade, is a eleven year survivor (she just completed another round of chemo as her type keeps coming back. Did I mention my son-in-law, Sean McQuade, is a firefighter with Pine Island Fire Dept. Each pink fire truck is named after someone who has suffered from cancer.
When I was diagnosed with lung cancer Sept. 21, 1994, only 15% of the 500,000 that were confirmed with this ugly diagnosis survived. I was one of the 15%. My thanks go to my Oncologist and my family that took care of me but most of all to God.
I am sure that He kept me around to inspire others to fight the big C.
